Here's a pleasant employment opportunity. We are looking for someone to work at the front desk two days a week doing general office work. We have a policy to not hire our patients but if you know someone who may be interested, please ask them to call Wendy at 301-495-0933 and click option 4#.

One of the comments that I hear most often is how distressingly fast people’s lives move these days. I hear reminiscences of seemingly endless summer vacations and long winter evenings spent with family and hobbies. I hear it from teenagers as well as adults. I believe that time seems to pass so fast because we are all much more busy then in the past and so life has become more like a collage then a linear process.

I have an exercise that I do in the spring that helps me to slow things down a bit. About this time of year, pick out a tree. It could be a tree that you see out your window, or one you can easily walk to, or one that you pass on the way to work every day.

The exercise is to simply notice it and to do nothing else but discern the spring awakening process from one day to the next. It’s a lovely experience even if you only just drive by it but being near it for a few minutes is even better. Small flowering trees like dogwoods are very satisfying but I also remember deeply enjoying a long spring being with the delicate changing hues of green of a weeping willow.

Biological Medicine is an expanded form of naturopathic medicine that is of the Germanic European tradition of natural healing. Biological Medicine techniques are especially successful in treating what traditional medicine calls nebulous, chronic, autoimmune, and infectious diseases.

However to learn about Biological Medicine as a whole, we need a completely different way of thinking. That is thinking in terms of ”regulation” and “information” and the idea that all diseases have their purposes. Regulation refers to a concept of fine-tuning of the inner milieu and the ability of the bodymindspirit to maintain an inner balance, even in a constantly changing environment.

In Biological Medicine theory, symptoms are never diseases, but rather are signs of dysregulation. Therefore disease is the expression of the body’s lack of ability to regulate itself and the result of a degenerative development. The remedies and life style suggestions that we recommend are at the root aimed to strengthen regulation so the body can heal itself. This is just a simple and rudimentary explanation of a very complex theory. For further discussion, please go to our website.

“The point is that our true nature is not some ideal that we have to live up to before we can love ourselves. Our true nature is who we are right now, and that’s who we want to make intimate friends with and celebrate.” ~ Pema Chodran
A very dear friend of mine recently died and I was talking about it with my daughter. My four-year-old grand daughter Sarah was playing near-by and said, “Don’t worry Grandma, she’s in heaven”.

Later while my daughter was running an errand, Sarah and I were reading a story and she said to me, “You know grandma, I was in heaven before I came here.’’ “Really!" said I, “And what was it like there?” “Oh”, Sarah mused, “I can’t remember...It was a long time ago...But I do remember that heaven was like a good feeling here on earth.”

So regardless of our belief system, it’s a sweet story. It also made me think about how committed we are here at the Center to bring more good feelings, more bits of “heavenly experience” to the people who come to us for help.

As an integrative practice, we strive to dwell ever more deeply in the tradition of honoring both Asclepius, the Greek god of healing, and that of Hippocrates, the Greek physician, father of medicine. Our aim is to wisely blend all potential aids to bring people ailing in body, mind, and spirit back to optimum health.

Thank you for continuing to let us serve you!

Warmly,

Ron, Martha and the Staff
