Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition caused by injury
to the brain. It can affect motor power, coordination, and intelligence.
The trauma that causes CP may occur before birth, during delivery,
or soon after birth. CP varies in its severity, symptoms, and region
of the body affected. For example, children whose legs are affected
may need a wheelchair to get around, may need a brace to walk, or
be clumsy in walking.
Sometimes children with CP can also have learning problems, problems
with hearing or seeing (called sensory problems), or mental retardation.
Usually, the greater the injury to the brain, the more severe the
CP.
